iRobot
United States
Status note · Sep 19, 2026
Changed from Established U.S. Presence to FCC Restriction on Sep 19, 2026 after an audit against the FCC's primary documents. The FCC added foreign-produced ground-mobile robots to its Covered List on Jul 28, 2026, and robot vacuums are covered when they meet its definition (over 4.4 lb, a sensor, 200 kbps connectivity and AI software). New foreign-produced models cannot receive FCC equipment authorization unless they qualify as a Buy American domestic end product or receive a Department of War Conditional Approval (apply by Jan 1, 2028); models authorized earlier can be sold through Jan 1, 2029. This label rests on the product class (robot vacuums are named in the rule), iRobot's ownership by China-based Shenzhen Picea Robotics since Jan 23, 2026, and reports that most Roombas were built in Vietnam. Roombas already sold and models authorized before Jul 28, 2026 remain sellable. Where current models are built and whether each is already FCC-authorized have not been confirmed with the company.
