Universal Robots
Denmark · founded 2005 · owned by Teradyne (Nasdaq: TER)
Why this status
Universal Robots has sold and serviced cobots in the United States for over a decade, through Teradyne's own commercial infrastructure since the 2015 acquisition, plus a distributor and systems-integrator network already built out across U.S. manufacturing regions. Buying a UR arm today is a domestic transaction — financing, training, and spare parts all run through channels already operating in the U.S.
For U.S. buyers
Universal Robots was the company that made "cobot" a category — the first collaborative arm certified to work without a fenced safety cell, under what's now ISO/TS 15066. That history is still the reason it's usually the default reference point buyers compare every other cobot against, whether or not they end up choosing it.
Because distribution is already mature, the sourcing question for UR arms isn't "can I get one" — it's picking the right integrator and payload class for the job, which is a more normal procurement conversation than most of the companies on this site require.
